Finally fall is here! The scorching heat of the Texas summer is passed, and the mercury has dropped below eighty degrees. Viva La Vida Festival And Parade
For thirty-five years, Austin has been celebrating the Day of the Dead with a Viva La Vida Festival and Parade. The day-long event kicks off on October 27th with a grand procession at noon on East 4th Street full of moving sculptures and giant paper-mâché mojigangas. For the kids, there’ll be an education pavilion with hands-on art activities as well as live music, performances, and artists and vendors booths.
Boo At The Zoo
Celebrate Halloween all through the month of October with Boo At The Zoo at the Austin Zoo. Children are invited to come dressed in their Halloween costumes and enjoy a haunted train ride, view nocturnal animals, and take an eerie walk through the bedecked mansion.
Austin Celtic Festival
The Austin Celtic Festival is a two-day extravaganza about all things Irish, Scottish, Breton, Manx, and Welsh. Bring the kids to Pioneer Farms in early November to experience Celtic music, watch traditional dance, and learn about traditional crafts. There’ll be Highland Games and Celtic varieties of horse and dog breeds as well as combat demonstrations.
Barton Hill Farms Fall Festival
If it’s a true country fall festival you want, take a short drive out of the city to the Barton Hill Farm’s annual fall festival. Your kids will want to spend the whole day there, running around the corn maze, picking out a pumpkin in their huge pumpkin patch, petting the farm animals, getting their faces painted, and enjoying the slides, train, and trike track. There’s plenty of music and frozen sangria for the adults, and lemonade and hot dogs for the kids.
